"The Prospect" is an American short story about a young pitching phenom who struggles to adapt when his baseball career doesn’t go as planned.

Georgia native Austin Colt had always been blessed with a golden right arm. As far back as he could remember, it had been able to produce a blistering fastball that zipped right past batters and rocketed him ever closer to his dream of becoming a great major league pitcher.

But in the first inning of his major league debut, something in Austin’s arm popped, and it suddenly became just an arm. It could brush his teeth, sign a birthday card, and pet a dog. Useful, functional, and utterly incapable of throwing a baseball past a professional hitter.

“The Prospect” explores the longing and passion for an unrealized dream, as Austin struggles to come to terms with losing the one thing in his life that made him feel special.
